Booking is simple. We will need to do a few checks on the filming / photography location to see if it is suitable for flying drones, This is completely free. Once we have established this, a date, and the brief, we can book you in the DoubleXAir diary.
HOW FAR DO YOU TRAVEL FOR WORK:
Drone Filming and Photography is our passion and there is no limit as to how far we will travel to do it. All that we ask is that you pay our travel and our accomodation.
WHAT ARE THE LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR FLYING DRONES:
DoubleXAir work with permission granted by the UK Civil Aviaition Authority. We have undergone extensive training in operating UAVs in a commercial environment. We have public liability insurance of up to £5 million. We work to the highest safety standards and are proud of our abilities within the industry.
WHERE CAN AND CANT YOU FLY DRONES:
Drones can be flown almost anywhere with the right planning. When approached with a booking we will first check on the intended flight area for suitability (see question 5 for more information). This is all free of charge. DoubleXAir operate a number of different drones for different applications. We have a lighter Sub 7KG drone which is suitable for more built up areas, and a larger drone which can handle stronger winds and is suitable for more remote locations. DoubleXAir perform a thorough risk assessment before any job is started. We work to the highest safety standards and will only fly if we are 100% sure that the task in hand can be safely acheived.
HOW CLOSE CAN YOU FLY TO PEOLPE OR PROPERTY:
We can fly as close to people or property under our control as we deem safe. However we need to remain at least 50 meters away from people or property that are not under our control. We also cannot fly within 150m of an open air assembly of 1000 peolpe of more.
WHAT CAMERAS CAN YOU CARRY ON YOUR DRONE:
DoubleXAir shoot all footage on a Panasonic GH4. There are two reasons for this. 1: This camera and lens are perfectly balanced on a high quality gyroscopically stabilised gimbal matched to the camera. This is what give the ultra stable footage. 2: We carry a panasonic GH4 for its lightweight, yet high quality filming capabilities. This allows us to be very manoeuvrable in the air achieving a diverse range of shots and manoeuvres.
HOW MANY PEOPLE DOES IT REQUIRE TO OPERATE YOUR DRONE:
The DoubleXAIr flight team consists of 2 people. One person to fly and control the UAV and another person to operate the camera gimbal. If needed DoubleXAir may bring a 3rd member to assist with crowd control and airspace checks.
CAN I SEE WHATS BEING FILMED WHILE ITS HAPPENING:
Yes we have a live video link to the camera so all the action can be seen on the screen during the flight.
CAN YOU FLY IN THE WIND:
Yes we can fly in winds of up to 25mph, although for ultra smooth cinematic footage we recommend not flying in winds stronger than 20mph. For aerial photography we can take crystal clear images in winds up to 25mph
CAN YOU FLY IN THE RAIN:
No, our drones cannot fly in the rain. Due to all the exposed electronics our drones are unable to fly in the rain. If it rains on the day of a shoot we will re-schedule at no extra cost. We also offer a 48hr refund before a shoot if it cannot be moved and the weather is looking bad.
HOW HIGH CAN YOU FLY A DRONE:
We can fly our drones up to a height of 400ft and a distance of 500m away from the pilot. We must always remain in visual line of site of the drone.
CAN YOU FLY INDOORS:
Yes we can fly our drones indoors provided there is enough space and it is safe to do so. This decision will ultimately be made by DoubleXAir
HOW WILL I RECIEVE MY PHOTOS OR VIDEO AFTER THE SHOOT:
All video and photography is stored on an SD card and can be transferred on site to a computer or alternatively transferred after we have returned from the shoot. Photography will be shot in JPEG and RAW and can be editied by DoubleXAir or sent as RAW files. Video is recorded in MOV format.
